No one captured the isolation of the individual within the modern city like Edward Hopper. His imagery of figures within urban settings go well beyond their role as modern cityscapes, exposing the underbelly of the human experience. I take the flavour of Hoppers work and intentionally inject it in to my work. I am recording my experiance of America and it seems fitting to borrow from the ultimate American Painter.
I am questioning the psychological inner life of the subjects. I am exploring the weight of the individual's existential being in modern America, within what might otherwise appear to be straight-forward images of everyday life.

"More than almost any American artist, Hopper has had a pervasive impact on the way we see the world--so pervasive as to be almost invisible."  Jeffrey Fraenkel, Hopper's Influence on Photography (2009)
